Friday Sep 20, 2019
When it comes to running a fitness franchise – or a business of any size, shape or format, as a matter of fact – Liberty Bernal has the Midas touch. Investing in a Curves for Women franchise when she was just 18 years old, she then went on to found Liberty Fitness and successfully grow it to 60 locations, become both Chief Operating Officer and President of EnVie Fitness, and was recently named COO of Baby Boot Camp.
As you can expect, getting involved with and assessing the operations of businesses is now second nature for Bernal. On this podcast, she talks to us about a whole range of subjects, from running her LAR Enterprise agency with husband Ryan to juggling several professional – and personal – responsibilities. She also discusses how taking a sabbatical from a business can reframe purpose, the meaning of success, and so much more.

How to disrupt an entire sector, with Arunabh Sinha of UClean

How do you know that someone is an entrepreneurial tour de force? When during an extremely rare day off — and national holiday — they’ll even carve out some time to join you on the podcast to discuss franchising. So massive props to Arunabh Sinha, who joined us for this eye-opening conversation during some precious downtime on India Independence Day.
And to say that Arunabh is a busy franchisor is a bit of an understatement. Since co-founding ‘offline-first’ laundry cleaning franchise UClean three years ago, he’s seen it grow its portfolio to 160-odd units based all over India and beyond. However, it hasn’t always been plain sailing for the franchise, and persuading potential early investors to buy into the UClean idea just didn’t quite wash at first. In order for his concept to survive, Arunabh had to change tact.
In this podcast, he not only discusses that crucial switchover in strategy, but he also delves into what costly mistakes were made, unveils the franchise’s next international markets, finding business inspiration in Southeast Asia and applying it to India, and diversifying the UClean concept through working with world-renowned franchise, ChemDry.

Friday Sep 20, 2019
Friday Sep 20, 2019
The baby and toddler swim school franchise, Water Babies, has grown at a phenomenal rate since it began in 2002. It now has franchises across the U.K., Ireland, the Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, China, and Germany, with more territories in the pipeline. Yet despite this exponential growth, its franchisee retention rate is staggeringly high. “We haven’t had a business failure in 17 years,” says Steve Franks, Group CEO and MD.
In this conversation, Steve not only addresses how Water Babies keeps its successful franchise recruitment record watertight, but he also dives into the benefits that swimming brings, the important role Water Babies plays in the 52,000-a-week customer base it helps, the company’s bold upcoming aquatic center project, and much more.
